Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

原来希律娶了他兄弟腓力的妻子希罗底，并为她的缘故而派人逮捕了约翰，把他关押在监牢里。

耶稣听见约翰被捕入狱，就回到加利利。

分封王希律娶了自己弟弟的妻子希罗底，又做了许多恶事，因而受到约翰的指责，可是他却恶上加恶，将约翰关进监牢里。

希罗底对约翰怀恨在心，想要杀掉他，只是不能得逞。

希罗底的女儿进来跳舞，甚得希律和客人的欢心。王对她说：“你想要什么，只管说。”

约翰在监狱中听到基督所做的事，就差两个门徒去问祂：

这时，有人把加利利人献祭时被彼拉多屠杀的事告诉了耶稣。

那时约翰还没有入狱，他在靠近撒冷的哀嫩也给人施洗。那里水多，众人都去受洗。
