Now a wife of one of the prophets appealed to Elisha for help, saying,“ Your servant, my husband is dead. You know that your servant was a loyal follower of the LORD. Now the creditor is coming to take away my two boys to be his servants.”Elisha said to her,“ What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered,“ Your servant has nothing in the house except a small jar of olive oil.”He said,“ Go and ask all your neighbors for empty containers. Get as many as you can.Go and close the door behind you and your sons. Pour the olive oil into all the containers; set aside each one when you have filled it.”So she left him and closed the door behind her and her sons. As they were bringing the containers to her, she was pouring the olive oil.When the containers were full, she said to one of her sons,“ Bring me another container.” But he answered her,“ There are no more.” Then the olive oil stopped flowing.She went and told the prophet. He said,“ Go, sell the olive oil. Repay your creditor, and then you and your sons can live off the rest of the profit.”

When I break off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven; they will ration your bread by weight, and you will eat and not be satisfied.

Don’t you remember?When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you pick up?” They replied,“ Twelve.”“ When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you pick up?” They replied,“ Seven.”Then he said to them,“ Do you still not understand?”

Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed the bread to those who were seated. He then did the same with the fish, as much as they wanted.When they were all satisfied, Jesus said to his disciples,“ Gather up the broken pieces that are left over, so that nothing is wasted.”So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves left over by the people who had eaten.Now when the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus performed, they began to say to one another,“ This is certainly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

And I said,“ Ah, sovereign LORD, I have never been ceremonially defiled before. I have never eaten a carcass or an animal torn by wild beasts; from my youth up, unclean meat has never entered my mouth.”So he said to me,“ All right then, I will substitute cow’s manure instead of human excrement. You will cook your food over it.”Then he said to me,“ Son of man, I am about to remove the bread supply in Jerusalem. They will eat their bread ration anxiously, and they will drink their water ration in terror
