For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

But He said,“ Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his hometown.

But Jesus, aware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them,“ Is this offensive to you?

“ You men who are stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, and you have now become betrayers and murderers of Him;

but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness,but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.For the foolishness of God is wiser than mankind, and the weakness of God is stronger than mankind.For consider your calling, brothers and sisters, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,and the insignificant things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,

And blessed is anyone who does not take offense at Me.”

And they were saying,“ Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say,‘ I have come down out of heaven’?”

And Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary,“ Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and as a sign to be opposed—and a sword will pierce your own soul— to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

Then He will become a sanctuary; But to both houses of Israel, He will be a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, And a snare and a trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel,‘ God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your countrymen.’This is the one who was in the assembly in the wilderness together with the angel who spoke to him at length on Mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to you.Our fathers were unwilling to be obedient to him; on the contrary they rejected him and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,

Moses said,‘ The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your countrymen; to Him you shall listen regarding everything He says to you.And it shall be that every soul that does not listen to that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’

And King Herod heard about it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying,“ John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”

This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One, Says to the despised One, To the One abhorred by the nation, To the Servant of rulers:“ Kings will see and arise, Princes will also bow down, Because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”

Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are His sisters not here with us?” And they took offense at Him.

He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of great pain and familiar with sickness; And like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.
