Then He said to them,“ Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.But it has happened to them according to the true proverb:“ A dog returns to his own vomit,” and,“ a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles— that a man has his father’s wife!And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you.For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged( as though I were present) him who has so done this deed.In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared.So the servants of the owner came and said to him,‘ sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’He said to them,‘ An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him,‘ Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’But he said,‘ No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers,“ First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”

So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant,‘ Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’And the servant said,‘ Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’Then the master said to the servant,‘ Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,all ate the same spiritual food,and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written,“ The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

For I fear lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not wish; lest there be contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, backbitings, whisperings, conceits, tumults;lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced.

For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you.

Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon,“ Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.”

And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in( who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage),

in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.But Peter said,“ Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him.Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.And Peter answered her,“ Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said,“ Yes, for so much.”Then Peter said to her,“ How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband.

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

“ And to the angel of the church in Sardis write,‘ These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars:“ I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

Then Jesus said to them,“ Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

“ I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.Because you say,‘ I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’— and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—

holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,saying,“ Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”But Peter said to him,“ Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

“ Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
