In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Get wisdom— how much better it is than gold! And get understanding— it is preferable to silver.

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughterand chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin.For he considered reproach for the sake of Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, since he was looking ahead to the reward.

But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ.More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christand be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ— the righteousness from God based on faith.

In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Buy— and do not sell— truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding.

After he heard this, he became extremely sad, because he was very rich.Seeing that he became sad, Jesus said,“ How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields because of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life.

Then Peter responded to him,“ See, we have left everything and followed you. So what will there be for us?”

“ Come, everyone who is thirsty, come to the water; and you without silver, come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without silver and without cost!

I advise you to buy from me gold refined in the fire so that you may be rich, white clothes so that you may be dressed and your shameful nakedness not be exposed, and ointment to spread on your eyes so that you may see.

But as it is written, What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived— God has prepared these things for those who love him.Now God has revealed these things to us by the Spirit, since the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

“ If you want to be perfect,” Jesus said to him,“ go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Now all the believers were together and held all things in common.They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need.Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts,praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

He presented another parable to them:“ The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.

So he quickly came down and welcomed him joyfully.All who saw it began to complain,“ He’s gone to stay with a sinful man.”But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord,“ Look, I’ll give half of my possessions to the poor, Lord. And if I have extorted anything from anyone, I’ll pay back four times as much.”

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

For you sympathized with the prisoners and accepted with joy the confiscation of your possessions, because you know that you yourselves have a better and enduring possession.

Now the entire group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common.With great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them.For there was not a needy person among them because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of what was sold,and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed to each person as any had need.

Why does a fool have money in his hand with no intention of buying wisdom?

For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures.

“ I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them.“ No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.

Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

One who isolates himself pursues selfish desires; he rebels against all sound wisdom.
