Then Peter said to Jesus,“ Explain to us the parable that says people aren’t defiled by what they eat.”“ Don’t you understand yet?” Jesus asked.

Some of the disciples asked each other,“ What does he mean when he says,‘ In a little while you won’t see me, but then you will see me,’ and‘ I am going to the Father’?And what does he mean by‘ a little while’? We don’t understand.”Jesus realized they wanted to ask him about it, so he said,“ Are you asking yourselves what I meant? I said in a little while you won’t see me, but a little while after that you will see me again.I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn over what is going to happen to me, but the world will rejoice. You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy.

He replied,“ You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.

They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them,“ Do you believe I can make you see?”“ Yes, Lord,” they told him,“ we do.”

Then Jesus went into a house to get away from the crowd, and his disciples asked him what he meant by the parable he had just used.

Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home.

Then Jesus sent the people home, and he got into a boat and crossed over to the region of Magadan.

In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them.
