So don’t judge anything before the appointed time. Wait until the Lord returns. He will bring to light what is hidden in the dark. He will show the real reasons why people do what they do. At that time each person will receive their praise from God.

The sins of some people are easy to see. They are already being judged. Others will be judged later.

If you don’t remain joined to me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and dries up. Branches like those are picked up. They are thrown into the fire and burned.

Then once again you will see the difference between godly people and sinful people. And you will see the difference between those who serve me and those who do not.“ You can be sure the day of the Lord is coming. My anger will burn like a furnace. All those who are proud will be like straw. So will all those who do what is evil. The day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord who rules over all.“ Not even a root or a branch will be left to them.

The enemy who plants them is the devil. The harvest is judgment day. And the workers are angels.“ The weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire. That is how it will be on judgment day.The Son of Man will send out his angels. They will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin. They will also get rid of all who do evil.They will throw them into the blazing furnace. There people will weep and grind their teeth.Then God’s people will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Whoever has ears should listen.

All the nations will be gathered in front of him. He will separate the people into two groups. He will be like a shepherd who separates the sheep from the goats.

Cities that have high walls around them will become empty. They will be settlements with no one in them. They will be like a desert. Calves will eat and lie down in them. They will strip bare the branches of their trees.When their twigs are dry, they will be broken off. Then women will come and make fires with them. The people of Jacob don’t understand the Lord. So the God who made them won’t be concerned about them. Their Creator won’t be kind to them.

“ At midnight someone cried out,‘ Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him!’“ Then all the bridesmaids woke up and got their lamps ready.The foolish ones said to the wise ones,‘ Give us some of your oil. Our lamps are going out.’“‘ No,’ they replied.‘ There may not be enough for all of us. Instead, go to those who sell oil. Buy some for yourselves.’“ So they went to buy the oil. But while they were on their way, the groom arrived. The bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding dinner. Then the door was shut.“ Later, the other bridesmaids also came.‘ Sir! Sir!’ they said.‘ Open the door for us!’“ But he replied,‘ What I’m about to tell you is true. I don’t know you.’“ So keep watch. You do not know the day or the hour that the groom will come.

Suppose it is thrown in the fire to be burned. And the fire burns both ends and blackens the middle. Then is the wood useful for anything?It was not useful when it was whole. So how can it be made into something useful now? The fire has burned it and blackened it.”Here is what the Lord and King says.“ Instead of the wood of any tree in the forest, I have given the vine to burn in the fire. I will treat the people who live in Jerusalem the same way.I will turn against them. They might have come out of the fire. But the fire will destroy them anyway. I will turn against them. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

So the slaves went out into the streets. They gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good. Soon the wedding hall was filled with guests.“ The king came in to see the guests. He noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.‘ Friend,’ he asked,‘ how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ The man couldn’t think of anything to say.“ Then the king told his slaves,‘ Tie up his hands and feet. Throw him outside into the darkness. Out there people will weep and grind their teeth.’“ Many are invited, but few are chosen.”

Someone may chase you and try to kill you. But the Lord your God will keep your life safe like a treasure hidden in a bag. And he’ll destroy your enemies. Their lives will be thrown away, just as a stone is thrown from a sling.
