“‘ An enemy did this,’ he replied.“ The servants asked him,‘ Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

He said to them,‘ An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him,‘ Then do you want us to go and gather them?’

And he said to them,‘ An enemy has done this!’ The slaves* said to him,‘ Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?’

And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

“‘ An enemy did this!’ he told them.“‘ So, do you want us to go and gather them up?’ the slaves asked him.

He said,‘ An enemy has done this.’ So the slaves replied,‘ Do you want us to go and gather them?’

“ He said to them,‘ An enemy has done this.’“ The servants asked him,‘ Do you want us to go and gather them up?’

Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this manin the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus.Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough?Get rid of the old“ yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

John said to Jesus,“ Master, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he isn’t in our group.”But Jesus said,“ Don’t stop him! Anyone who is not against you is for you.”As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.He sent messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival.But the people of the village did not welcome Jesus because he was on his way to Jerusalem.When James and John saw this, they said to Jesus,“ Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up?”

Most of you opposed him, and that was punishment enough.Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement.So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him.I wrote to you as I did to test you and see if you would fully comply with my instructions.When you forgive this man, I forgive him, too. And when I forgive whatever needs to be forgiven, I do so with Christ’s authority for your benefit,so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.

And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.
