It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.

For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?

And he said to them,“ Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word,but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.

“ See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.For all that is in the world— the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life— is not from the Father but is from the world.

So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing,

one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks,“ For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.

Was it a time to accept money and garments, olive orchards and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male servants and female servants?Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So he went out from his presence a leper, like snow.

There is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt,and those riches were lost in a bad venture. And he is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand.
