But Jesus, aware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them,“ Is this offensive to you?What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life.But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray Him.And He was saying,“ For this reason I have told you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”

Then Jesus said to His disciples,“ If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul?

You are aware of the fact that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.

Jesus answered them and said,“ Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate some of the loaves and were filled.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

“ Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.And at that time many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another.

For what is the hope of the godless when he makes an end of life, When God requires his life?Will God hear his cry When distress comes upon him?Or will he take pleasure in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?

Then Jesus* said to them,“ You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written:‘ I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

All who want to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.

The wicked person desires the plunder of evil people, But the root of the righteous yields fruit.

And He summoned the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them,“ If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?

Many will say to Me on that day,‘ Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’And then I will declare to them,‘ I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

to those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life;
