For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous[ men] have desired to see[ those things] which ye see, and have not seen[ them]; and to hear[ those things] which ye hear, and have not heard[ them].

For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

What I’m about to tell you is true. Many prophets and godly people wanted to see what you see. But they didn’t see it. They wanted to hear what you hear. But they didn’t hear it.

For most certainly I tell you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which you see, and didn’t see them; and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw[ it], and was glad.

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of[ them], and embraced[ them], and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace[ that should come] unto you:Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen[ them]; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard[ them].

Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
