我喜愛良善，不喜愛祭祀；喜愛認識神，勝於燔祭。

經上說：『我喜愛憐恤，不喜愛祭祀。』這句話的意思，你們且去揣摩。我來本不是召義人，乃是召罪人。」

我朝見耶和華，在至高神面前跪拜，當獻上甚麼呢？豈可獻一歲的牛犢為燔祭嗎？耶和華豈喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？我豈可為自己的罪過獻我的長子嗎？為心中的罪惡獻我身所生的嗎？世人哪，耶和華已指示你何為善。他向你所要的是甚麼呢？只要你行公義，好憐憫，存謙卑的心，與你的神同行。

耶和華說：你們所獻的許多祭物與我何益呢？公綿羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂油，我已經夠了；公牛的血，羊羔的血，公山羊的血，我都不喜悅。你們來朝見我，誰向你們討這些，使你們踐踏我的院宇呢？你們不要再獻虛浮的供物。香品是我所憎惡的；月朔和安息日，並宣召的大會，也是我所憎惡的；作罪孽，又守嚴肅會，我也不能容忍。你們的月朔和節期，我心裏恨惡，我都以為麻煩；我擔當，便不耐煩。你們舉手禱告，我必遮眼不看；就是你們多多地祈禱，我也不聽。你們的手都滿了殺人的血。你們要洗濯、自潔，從我眼前除掉你們的惡行，要止住作惡，學習行善，尋求公平，解救受欺壓的；給孤兒伸冤，為寡婦辨屈。

定惡人為義的，定義人為惡的，這都為耶和華所憎惡。

耶穌回答說：「你們錯了；因為不明白聖經，也不曉得神的大能。

你們定了義人的罪，把他殺害，他也不抵擋你們。

耶路撒冷居住的人和他們的官長，因為不認識基督，也不明白每安息日所讀眾先知的書，就把基督定了死罪，正應了先知的預言；

因為他必站在窮乏人的右邊，要救他脫離審判他靈魂的人。

他又向約伯的三個朋友發怒；因為他們想不出回答的話來，仍以約伯為有罪。

他們大家聚集攻擊義人，將無辜的人定為死罪。
