For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and produces vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.

For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?For we know Him who said,“ Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again,“ The Lord will judge His people.”It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

But these people disparage all the things that they do not understand; and all the things that they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed.Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have given themselves up to the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.These are the ones who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, like shepherds caring only for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted;wild waves of the sea, churning up their own shameful deeds like dirty foam; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of darkness has been reserved forever.

having eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having hearts trained in greed, accursed children;abandoning the right way, they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the reward of unrighteousness;but he received a rebuke for his own offense, for a mute donkey, speaking with a human voice, restrained the insanity of the prophet.These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved.For, while speaking out arrogant words of no value they entice by fleshly desires, by indecent behavior, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error,promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what anyone is overcome, by this he is enslaved.For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.It has happened to them according to the true proverb,“ A dog returns to its own vomit,” and,“ A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.”

But now they have been hidden from your eyes.For the days will come upon you when your enemies will put up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side,and they will level you to the ground, and throw down your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

If anyone sees his brother or sister committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will, for him, give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death; I am not saying that he should ask about that.All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.

who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out. They are not pleasing to God, but hostile to all people,hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always reach the limit of their sins. But wrath has come upon them fully.

You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

But when the vine growers saw the son, they said among themselves,‘ This is the heir; come, let’s kill him and take possession of his inheritance!’And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine growers?”They* said to Him,“ He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other vine growers, who will pay him the fruit in the proper seasons.”Jesus* said to them,“ Did you never read in the Scriptures,‘ A stone which the builders rejected, This has become the chief cornerstone; This came about from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit.And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”

But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith for the safekeeping of the soul.

But when the Pharisees heard this, they said,“ This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.”

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.The one who hates Me hates My Father also.If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well.

For this reason also, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and some they will persecute,so that the blood of all the prophets, shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation,from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.’

Fill up, then, the measure of the guilt of your fathers.You snakes, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?“ Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city,so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.Behold, your house is being left to you desolate!For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say,‘ Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”
