You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

You nest of poisonous snakes! How can you who are evil say anything good? Your mouths say everything that is in your hearts.

In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish,but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

As the Scriptures say,“ No one is righteous— not even one.No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God.All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.”“ Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.”“ Snake venom drips from their lips.”“ Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

For fools speak foolishness and make evil plans. They practice ungodliness and spread false teachings about the Lord. They deprive the hungry of food and give no water to the thirsty.

those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long.Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude

They think,“ Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!”Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.

But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them.“ You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed.“ Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed.

They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows.

Only fools say in their hearts,“ There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!

Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?

When the crowds came to John for baptism, he said,“ You brood of snakes! Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

No one cares about being fair and honest. The people’s lawsuits are based on lies. They conceive evil deeds and then give birth to sin.

Rescue me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people.O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment?You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals.

All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you’re an expert at telling lies.You love evil more than good and lies more than truth. InterludeYou love to destroy others with your words, you liar!But God will strike you down once and for all. He will pull you from your home and uproot you from the land of the living. Interlude

“ Go to the entrance of the Lord’s Temple, and give this message to the people:‘ O Judah, listen to this message from the Lord! Listen to it, all of you who worship here!This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says:“‘ Even now, if you quit your evil ways, I will let you stay in your own land.But don’t be fooled by those who promise you safety simply because the Lord’s Temple is here. They chant,“ The Lord’s Temple is here! The Lord’s Temple is here!”But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice;

They encourage each other to do evil and plan how to set their traps in secret.“ Who will ever notice?” they ask.
