“ But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist.

Jesus answered them,“ I will also ask you one question, and if you answer it for Me, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.Where did John’s baptism come from? From heaven or from men?” They began to argue among themselves,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say to us,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’But if we say,‘ From men,’ we’re afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought John was a prophet.”

For he will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or beer. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit while still in his mother’s womb.He will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.And he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.

Then they began to question Him,“ Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”“ Elijah does come first and restores everything,” He replied.“ How then is it written about the Son of Man that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?But I tell you that Elijah really has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written about him.”

For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John;if you’re willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who is to come.
