不過他要憑著信仰祈求，不要有任何疑惑，因為疑惑的人就像海中的波浪，被風吹動翻騰。

這樣，我們就不再是小孩子，在人的狡詐和詭計中陷入那迷惑人的騙局，被各種教義之風搖動，飄來飄去。

約翰是一盞燃燒發光的燈，你們情願在他的光裡快樂一時。

在曠野有聲音呼喊著：『你們當預備主的道，當修直他的路！』」於是約翰就來了。他在曠野施洗，並宣講為罪得赦免而悔改的洗禮。全猶太地區和整個耶路撒冷的人，都出來到他那裡，承認自己的罪孽，在約旦河裡受他的洗禮。

約翰的使者離開了，耶穌就開始對眾人談起約翰，說：「你們曾經到曠野去，是要觀看什麼呢？一根被風吹動的蘆葦嗎？你們出去，究竟是要看什麼呢？一個身穿細軟衣服的人嗎？看哪，那些穿華麗衣服、生活放蕩的人在王宮裡。你們出去，究竟是要看什麼呢？一位先知嗎？是的，我告訴你們：他比先知還大。他就是經上記載的那個人：『看哪，我要差派我的使者在你前頭，他要在你之前預備你的道。』「我告訴你們：在女人所生的人中，沒有一個比約翰更大的；然而在神的國裡，再小的也比約翰更大。」所有已經受過約翰洗禮的民眾和稅吏，聽了這話，都承認神是義的；而沒有受過他洗禮的法利賽人和律法師們，就棄絕了神對他們的計劃。

所以，你們要留心怎樣去聽；因為凡是有的，還要賜給他；凡是沒有的，連他自以為有的也將從他那裡被拿走。」

那時，耶路撒冷、全猶太地區和整個約旦河一帶的人，都出來到他那裡，

約翰的洗禮是從哪裡來的？是來自天上，還是來自人間呢？」他們就彼此討論，說：「如果我們說『是來自天上』，他就會問我們『那麼你們為什麼不相信他呢？』

他就來到約旦河周圍所有的地區宣講為罪得赦免而悔改的洗禮。正如先知以賽亞書上所記載的話：「在曠野有聲音呼喊著：『你們當預備主的道，當修直他的路！一切山谷將被填滿，山嶺小丘將被削平；扭曲的道將要修直，崎嶇的路將要鋪平。所有的人都將看見神的救恩。』」約翰對那些出來受他洗禮的人群說：「你們這些毒蛇的子孫！誰指示你們逃避那將要來臨的震怒呢？

耶穌轉過身來，看到他們跟著走，就問：「你們尋找什麼呢？」他們對耶穌說：「拉比，你住在哪裡呢？」——「拉比」翻譯出來意思是「老師」。

那麼，我這樣打算，難道就是輕率行事嗎？難道我所計劃的，是順著肉體的計劃，以致在我忽是忽非嗎？神是信實的，我們向你們傳的話語，並沒有「是」而又「非」。

在那些日子裡，施洗者約翰來了，在猶太的曠野傳道，說：「你們應當悔改，因為天國近了。」這約翰就是藉著先知以賽亞所說的那個人。以賽亞說：「在曠野有聲音呼喊著：『你們當預備主的道，當修直他的路！』」

你卻放縱如水，必不再出眾；因為你上了你父親的床，把床玷汙了。他居然上了我的床鋪！
