他在旷野大声呼喊，‘预备主的道，修直祂的路。’”果然，约翰出现了，他在旷野劝人悔改，接受洗礼，使罪得到赦免。犹太全境和耶路撒冷的居民都到约翰面前承认他们的罪，在约旦河里接受他的洗礼。

因此，你们要留心听，因为凡有的，还要给他更多；凡没有的，连他自以为已经拥有的也要被夺去。”

那时，耶路撒冷、犹太各地和约旦河一带的人都来到约翰那里，

约翰的洗礼是从哪里来的？从天上来的，还是从人来的？”他们便彼此议论说：“如果我们说‘是从天上来的’，祂一定会问我们，‘那你们为什么不信他？’

他就到约旦河附近宣讲悔改的洗礼，使人的罪得到赦免。这正应验了以赛亚先知书上的话：“在旷野有人大声呼喊，“‘预备主的道，修直祂的路。一切山谷将被填满，大山小丘将被削平，弯曲的道路要被修直，崎岖的路径要被铺平。世人都要看见上帝的救恩。’”约翰对前来接受他洗礼的人群说：“你们这些毒蛇的后代！谁指示你们逃避那将临的烈怒呢？

耶稣转过身来，看见他们跟着，便问：“你们想要什么？”他们说：“老师，你住在哪里？”

我定了这计划，难道会反复无常吗？难道我是意气用事，出尔反尔吗？我在信实的上帝面前保证：我们对你们说的话绝不会忽是忽非！

那时，施洗者约翰来到犹太的旷野传道，说：“悔改吧，因为天国临近了！”约翰就是以赛亚先知所说的那位，他说：“有人在旷野大声呼喊，‘预备主的道，修直祂的路。’”

可是，你必不再居首位，因为你放纵情欲，如沸腾不止的水，你上了你父亲的床，玷污了我的榻。
