For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time— to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.

So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen.

This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said,“ O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.

Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.

God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ— which is to fulfill his own good plan.

So why are you bringing a charge against him? Why say he does not respond to people’s complaints?

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice?And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory.
