说：‘我们给你们吹笛子，你们却不跳舞；我们唱哀歌，你们也不捶胸。’

「我吹笛、爾未舞；我悲歌、爾未哭。」

“‘ We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’

“‘ We played the flute for you. But you didn’t dance. We sang a funeral song. But you didn’t become sad.’

“‘ We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’

‘ We played wedding songs, and you didn’t dance, so we played funeral songs, and you didn’t mourn.’

We played the flute for you, but you didn’t dance; we sang a lament, but you didn’t mourn!

and say,‘ We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a song of mourning, and you did not mourn.’

and saying:‘ We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not lament.’

and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn.

We played the flute for you, but you didn’t dance; we sang a lament, but you didn’t mourn!

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

‘ We played the flute for you, yet you did not dance; we wailed in mourning, yet you did not weep.’

and say,‘ We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’

“ Who is it he is trying to teach? To whom is he explaining his message? To children weaned from their milk, to those just taken from the breast?For it is: Do this, do that, a rule for this, a rule for that; a little here, a little there.”Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people,to whom he said,“ This is the resting place, let the weary rest”; and,“ This is the place of repose”— but they would not listen.So then, the word of the Lord to them will become: Do this, do that, a rule for this, a rule for that; a little here, a little there— so that as they go they will fall backward; they will be injured and snared and captured. When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, (niv)

This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Consider now! Call for the wailing women to come; send for the most skillful of them.Let them come quickly and wail over us till our eyes overflow with tears and water streams from our eyelids.The sound of wailing is heard from Zion:‘ How ruined we are! How great is our shame! We must leave our land because our houses are in ruins.’”Now, you women, hear the word of the Lord; open your ears to the words of his mouth. Teach your daughters how to wail; teach one another a lament. (niv)

Jesus answered,“ How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. (niv)

Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law( though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.To those not having the law I became like one not having the law( though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law.To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. (niv)

And all the people went up after him, playing pipes and rejoicing greatly, so that the ground shook with the sound. (niv)

I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt. Again you will take up your timbrels and go out to dance with the joyful. (niv)

And you will sing as on the night you celebrate a holy festival; your hearts will rejoice as when people playing pipes go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. (niv)
