And His disciples asked Him, saying,“ Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”Jesus answered and said to them,“ Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

“ I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;

And they asked him,“ What then? Are you Elijah?” He said,“ I am not.”“ Are you the Prophet?” And he answered,“ No.”Then they said to him,“ Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”He said:“ I am‘ The voice of one crying in the wilderness:“ Make straight the way of the Lord,”’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

As for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse— for they are a rebellious house— yet they will know that a prophet has been among them.

Moreover He said to me:“ Son of man, receive into your heart all My words that I speak to you, and hear with your ears.And go, get to the captives, to the children of your people, and speak to them and tell them,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD,’ whether they hear, or whether they refuse.”

And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
