约翰还没有来以前，律法书和先知书是你们的准则。他出来后，上帝国的福音开始广传，人人都在努力进上帝的国。

“你们要努力进窄门，因为我告诉你们，将来有许多人想要进却进不去。

要穿戴上帝所赐的全副军装，以便能够抵挡魔鬼的阴谋。因为我们争战的对象不是这世上的血肉之躯，而是在这黑暗世界执政的、掌权的、管辖的和天上属灵的邪恶势力。因此，你们要用上帝所赐的全副军装装备自己，好在邪恶的时代抵挡仇敌，到争战结束后依旧昂首挺立。

不要为那必坏的食物劳苦，要为那存到永生的食物，就是人子要赐给你们的食物劳苦，因为父上帝把这权柄交给了人子。”

耶稣进了圣殿，正在教导人的时候，祭司长和民间的长老来质问祂：“你凭什么权柄做这些事？谁授权给你了？”耶稣说：“我也要问你们一个问题，你们回答了，我就告诉你们我凭什么权柄做这些事。约翰的洗礼是从哪里来的？从天上来的，还是从人来的？”他们便彼此议论说：“如果我们说‘是从天上来的’，祂一定会问我们，‘那你们为什么不信他？’但如果我们说‘是从人来的’，又怕触怒百姓，因为他们相信约翰是个先知。”于是，他们回答耶稣说：“我们不知道。”耶稣说：“我也不告诉你们我凭什么权柄做这些事。”耶稣又说：“你们怎样看这件事？某人有两个儿子。他对大儿子说，‘孩子，你今天到葡萄园工作吧！’“大儿子回答说，‘我不去！’但后来他改变了主意，就去了。“那父亲又对小儿子说，‘你今天到葡萄园工作吧！’小儿子回答说，‘好的，父亲。’他答应了，却没有去。“你们认为这两个儿子，到底哪一个服从父亲呢？”他们回答道：“大儿子。”耶稣说：“我实在告诉你们，税吏和娼妓要比你们先进上帝的国。因为约翰来指示你们当行的正路，你们不信他，但税吏和娼妓信了。你们亲眼看见了这些事，竟然还是执迷不悟，不肯信他。

所以，我亲爱的弟兄姊妹，既然我在你们那里的时候，你们一向都很顺服；如今我不在你们那里，你们更要顺服，要战战兢兢地活出得救后应有的生命。

众百姓和税吏听了这番话，都承认上帝是公义的，因为他们接受了约翰的洗礼。但那些法利赛人和律法教师没有接受约翰的洗礼，拒绝了上帝为他们所定的旨意。
