John is the man to whom the Scriptures refer when they say,‘ Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way before you.’

有聲音呼喊著：「要在曠野預備耶和華的道路，在荒漠為我們的神修直大道！

正如先知以賽亞書上所記載的：「看哪，我要差派我的使者在你前頭，他要預備你的道。

看哪！在耶和華大而可畏的日子來到之前，我必派遣先知以利亞到你們那裡去。

約翰說：「正如先知以賽亞所說的，我就是在曠野裡呼喊的聲音：『你們當修直主的道。』」

你們出去，究竟是要看什麼呢？一位先知嗎？是的，我告訴你們：他比先知還大。他就是經上記載的那個人：『看哪，我要差派我的使者在你前頭，他要在你之前預備你的道。』

這約翰就是藉著先知以賽亞所說的那個人。以賽亞說：「在曠野有聲音呼喊著：『你們當預備主的道，當修直他的路！』」
