Jesus sent out these twelve after giving them instructions:“ Don’t take the road that leads to the Gentiles, and don’t enter any Samaritan town.

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions:“ Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.

We worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews.But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship him.God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and in truth.”

Then he sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

“ He said to me,‘ Go, because I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”They listened to him up to this point. Then they raised their voices, shouting,“ Wipe this man off the face of the earth! He should not be allowed to live!”As they were yelling and flinging aside their garments and throwing dust into the air,

Saul agreed with putting him to death. On that day a severe persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the land of Judea and Samaria.

so he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar near the property that Jacob had given his son Joseph.

Jesus said to them again,“ Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”

The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.For they heard them speaking in tongues and declaring the greatness of God. Then Peter responded,“ Can anyone withhold water and prevent these people from being baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.The apostles and the brothers and sisters who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.When Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him,saying,“ You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.”Peter began to explain to them step by step,“ I was in the town of Joppa praying, and I saw, in a trance, an object that resembled a large sheet coming down, being lowered by its four corners from heaven, and it came to me.When I looked closely and considered it, I saw the four-footed animals of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky.I also heard a voice telling me,‘ Get up, Peter; kill and eat.’“‘ No, Lord!’ I said.‘ For nothing impure or ritually unclean has ever entered my mouth.’But a voice answered from heaven a second time,‘ What God has made clean, you must not call impure.’“ Now this happened three times, and everything was drawn up again into heaven.At that very moment, three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea arrived at the house where we were.The Spirit told me to accompany them with no doubts at all. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we went into the man’s house.He reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying,‘ Send to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is also named Peter.He will speak a message to you by which you and all your household will be saved.’“ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came down on them, just as on us at the beginning.I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said,‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’If, then, God gave them the same gift that he also gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, how could I possibly hinder God?”When they heard this they became silent. And they glorified God, saying,“ So then, God has given repentance resulting in life even to the Gentiles.”

For I say that Christ became a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God’s truth, to confirm the promises to the fathers,and so that Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praise to your name.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Then the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim and settled them in place of the Israelites in the cities of Samaria. The settlers took possession of Samaria and lived in its cities.When they first lived there, they did not fear the LORD. So the LORD sent lions among them, which killed some of them.The settlers said to the king of Assyria,“ The nations that you have deported and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them that are killing them because the people don’t know the requirements of the god of the land.”Then the king of Assyria issued a command:“ Send back one of the priests you deported. Have him go and live there so he can teach them the requirements of the god of the land.”So one of the priests they had deported came and lived in Bethel, and he began to teach them how they should fear the LORD.But the people of each nation were still making their own gods in the cities where they lived and putting them in the shrines of the high places that the people of Samaria had made.The men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima,the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.They feared the LORD, but they also made from their ranks priests for the high places, who were working for them at the shrines of the high places.They feared the LORD, but they also worshiped their own gods according to the practice of the nations from which they had been deported.They are still observing the former practices to this day. None of them fear the LORD or observe the statutes and ordinances, the law and commandments that the LORD had commanded the descendants of Jacob, whom he had given the name Israel.The LORD made a covenant with Jacob’s descendants and commanded them,“ Do not fear other gods; do not bow in worship to them; do not serve them; do not sacrifice to them.Instead fear the LORD, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power and an outstretched arm. You are to bow down to him, and you are to sacrifice to him.You are to be careful always to observe the statutes, the ordinances, the law, and the commandments he wrote for you; do not fear other gods.Do not forget the covenant that I have made with you. Do not fear other gods,but fear the LORD your God, and he will rescue you from all your enemies.”However, these nations would not listen but continued observing their former practices.They feared the LORD but also served their idols. Still today, their children and grandchildren continue doing as their ancestors did.

Then the Jews said to one another,“ Where does he intend to go that we won’t find him? He doesn’t intend to go to the Jewish people dispersed among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, does he?

But a Samaritan on his journey came up to him, and when he saw the man, he had compassion.

The Jews responded to him,“ Aren’t we right in saying that you’re a Samaritan and have a demon?”

Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, along the road by the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.

Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.”

He sent messengers ahead of himself, and on the way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for him.But they did not welcome him, because he determined to journey to Jerusalem.When the disciples James and John saw this, they said,“ Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?”

After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and he sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself was about to go.

Now many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of what the woman said when she testified,“ He told me everything I ever did.”So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.

He fell facedown at his feet, thanking him. And he was a Samaritan.

He sent his servants to summon those invited to the banquet, but they didn’t want to come.

by keeping us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. As a result, they are constantly filling up their sins to the limit, and wrath has overtaken them at last.

Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them.The crowds were all paying attention to what Philip said, as they listened and saw the signs he was performing.For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed, and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.So there was great joy in that city.A man named Simon had previously practiced sorcery in that city and amazed the Samaritan people, while claiming to be somebody great.They all paid attention to him, from the least of them to the greatest, and they said,“ This man is called the Great Power of God.”They were attentive to him because he had amazed them with his sorceries for a long time.But when they believed Philip, as he proclaimed the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.Even Simon himself believed. And after he was baptized, he followed Philip everywhere and was amazed as he observed the signs and great miracles that were being performed.When the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.After they went down there, they prayed for them so that the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit because he had not yet come down on any of them.( They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,saying,“ Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”But Peter told him,“ May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God.Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, your heart’s intent may be forgiven.For I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by wickedness.”“ Pray to the Lord for me,” Simon replied,“ so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”So, after they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they traveled back to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
