“ Then the Lord said to me,‘ Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”The crowd listened to Paul until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted,“ Rid the earth of him! He’s not fit to live!”As they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air, (niv)

And Saul approved of their killing him. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. (niv)

So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. (niv)

Again Jesus said,“ Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (niv)

The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,“ Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized himand said,“ You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story:“ I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was.I looked into it and saw four- footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds.Then I heard a voice telling me,‘ Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’“ I replied,‘ Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’“ The voice spoke from heaven a second time,‘ Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.“ Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying.The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house.He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say,‘ Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter.He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’“ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.Then I remembered what the Lord had said:‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying,“ So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.” (niv)

For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmedand, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written:“ Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing the praises of your name.” (niv)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (niv)

The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Kuthah, Avva, Hamath and Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived in its towns.When they first lived there, they did not worship the Lord; so he sent lions among them and they killed some of the people.It was reported to the king of Assyria:“ The people you deported and resettled in the towns of Samaria do not know what the god of that country requires. He has sent lions among them, which are killing them off, because the people do not know what he requires.”Then the king of Assyria gave this order:“ Have one of the priests you took captive from Samaria go back to live there and teach the people what the god of the land requires.”So one of the priests who had been exiled from Samaria came to live in Bethel and taught them how to worship the Lord.Nevertheless, each national group made its own gods in the several towns where they settled, and set them up in the shrines the people of Samaria had made at the high places.The people from Babylon made Sukkoth Benoth, those from Kuthah made Nergal, and those from Hamath made Ashima;the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire as sacrifices to Adrammelek and Anammelek, the gods of Sepharvaim.They worshiped the Lord, but they also appointed all sorts of their own people to officiate for them as priests in the shrines at the high places.They worshiped the Lord, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought.To this day they persist in their former practices. They neither worship the Lord nor adhere to the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands that the Lord gave the descendants of Jacob, whom he named Israel.When the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites, he commanded them:“ Do not worship any other gods or bow down to them, serve them or sacrifice to them.But the Lord, who brought you up out of Egypt with mighty power and outstretched arm, is the one you must worship. To him you shall bow down and to him offer sacrifices.You must always be careful to keep the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods.Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.”They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices.Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did. (niv)

The Jews said to one another,“ Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? (niv)

But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. (niv)

The Jews answered him,“ Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?” (niv)

“ Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— (niv)

Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” (niv)

And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked,“ Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” (niv)

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. (niv)

Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony,“ He told me everything I ever did.”So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. (niv)

He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him— and he was a Samaritan. (niv)

He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. (niv)

Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there.When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said.For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed.So there was great joy in that city.Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed,“ This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.”They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery.But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria.When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit,because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them moneyand said,“ Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”Peter answered:“ May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”Then Simon answered,“ Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
