Suppose someone welcomes a prophet as a prophet. They will receive a prophet’s reward. And suppose someone welcomes a godly person as a godly person. They will receive a godly person’s reward.

The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.

If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs.

One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat.She said to her husband,“ I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God.Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”

May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me.May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch.He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the Lord.Then he got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched himself out on him, the boy’s body grew warm.Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.Elisha summoned Gehazi and said,“ Call the Shunammite.” And he did. When she came, he said,“ Take your son.”She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.

God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble youand give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.

Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.”

and Ahab had summoned Obadiah, his palace administrator.( Obadiah was a devout believer in the Lord.While Jezebel was killing off the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water.)

“ Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.”So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked,“ Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?”As she was going to get it, he called,“ And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”“ As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied,“ I don’t have any bread— only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it— and die.”Elijah said to her,“ Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:‘ The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.

“ Then the King will say to those on his right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’“ Then the righteous will answer him,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’“ The King will reply,‘ Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

“ Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
