And Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon. Solomon’s mother had been Uriah’s wife.

and Jesse fathered King David. Then David fathered Solomon by Uriah’s wife,

And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her[ that had been the wife] of Urias;

and Jesse the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon( by the wife of Uriah),

Jesse became the father of King David. David became the father of Solomon by her who had been Uriah’s wife.

Now David was the son of an Ephrathite named Jesse, who was from Bethlehem in Judah. Jesse had eight sons, and in Saul’s time he was very old.

The Lord said to Samuel,“ How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”

Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and made love to her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The Lord loved him;and because the Lord loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah.

When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.

and these were the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan and Solomon. These four were by Bathsheba daughter of Ammiel.

These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

So he asked Jesse,“ Are these all the sons you have?”“ There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered.“ He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said,“ Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.”So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said,“ Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.

Saul’s anger flared up at Jonathan and he said to him,“ You son of a perverse and rebellious woman! Don’t I know that you have sided with the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of the mother who bore you?As long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now send someone to bring him to me, for he must die!”

This concludes the prayers of David son of Jesse.

Is that why you have all conspired against me? No one tells me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you is concerned about me or tells me that my son has incited my servant to lie in wait for me, as he does today.”

Of all my sons— and the Lord has given me many— he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

These are the last words of David:“ The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse, the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, the hero of Israel’s songs:

“ Whose son are you, young man?” Saul asked him. David said,“ I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.”

For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,

and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said,“ She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”

After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him:‘ I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’“ From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

Then Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother,“ Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has become king, and our lord David knows nothing about it?Now then, let me advise you how you can save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.Go in to King David and say to him,‘ My lord the king, did you not swear to me your servant:“ Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’While you are still there talking to the king, I will come in and add my word to what you have said.”So Bathsheba went to see the aged king in his room, where Abishag the Shunammite was attending him.Bathsheba bowed down, prostrating herself before the king.“ What is it you want?” the king asked.She said to him,“ My lord, you yourself swore to me your servant by the Lord your God:‘ Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne.’

Then King David said,“ Call in Bathsheba.” So she came into the king’s presence and stood before him.The king then took an oath:“ As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble,I will surely carry out this very day what I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”Then Bathsheba bowed down with her face to the ground, prostrating herself before the king, and said,“ May my lord King David live forever!”

For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life— except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.
