Jesse became the father of King David. David became the father of Solomon by her who had been Uriah’s wife.

Now David was the son of this Ephrathite named Jesse from Bethlehem in Judah. He had eight sons, and in Saul’s days he was old and well advanced in years.

The LORD said to Samuel,“ How long do you intend to mourn for Saul? I have rejected him as king over Israel. Fill your horn with olive oil and go! I am sending you to Jesse in Bethlehem, for I have selected a king for myself from among his sons.”

So David comforted his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and had marital relations with her. She gave birth to a son, and David named him Solomon. Now the LORD loved the childand sent word through Nathan the prophet that he should be named Jedidiah for the LORD’s sake.

When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead, she mourned for him.When the time of mourning passed, David had her brought to his palace. She became his wife and she bore him a son. But what David had done upset the LORD.

These were the sons born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon– the mother of these four was Bathsheba the daughter of Ammiel.

These are the names of children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

Then Samuel said to Jesse,“ Is that all of the young men?” Jesse replied,“ There is still the youngest one, but he’s taking care of the flock.” Samuel said to Jesse,“ Send and get him, for we cannot turn our attention to other things until he comes here.”So Jesse had him brought in. Now he was ruddy, with attractive eyes and a handsome appearance. The LORD said,“ Go and anoint him. This is the one!”So Samuel took the horn full of olive oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers. The Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day onward. Then Samuel got up and went to Ramah.

Saul became angry with Jonathan and said to him,“ You stupid traitor! Don’t I realize that to your own disgrace and to the disgrace of your mother’s nakedness you have chosen this son of Jesse?For as long as this son of Jesse is alive on the earth, you and your kingdom will not be established. Now, send some men and bring him to me. For he is as good as dead!”

For all of you have conspired against me! No one informs me when my own son makes an agreement with this son of Jesse! Not one of you feels sorry for me or informs me that my own son has commissioned my own servant to hide in ambush against me, as is the case today!”

From all the many sons the LORD has given me, he chose Solomon my son to rule on his behalf over Israel.

Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the father of David.

These are the final words of David:“ The oracle of David son of Jesse, the oracle of the man raised up as the ruler chosen by the God of Jacob, Israel’s beloved singer of songs:

Saul said to him,“ Whose son are you, young man?” David replied,“ I am the son of your servant Jesse in Bethlehem.”

For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

So David sent someone to inquire about the woman. The messenger said,“ Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

After removing him, God raised up David their king. He testified about him:‘ I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my heart, who will accomplish everything I want him to do.’From the descendants of this man God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, just as he promised.

and Uriah the Hittite. Altogether there were thirty-seven.

A shoot will grow out of Jesse’s root stock, a bud will sprout from his roots.

Nathan said to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother,“ Has it been reported to you that Haggith’s son Adonijah has become king behind our master David’s back?Now let me give you some advice as to how you can save your life and your son Solomon’s life.Visit King David and say to him,‘ My master, O king, did you not solemnly promise your servant,“ Surely your son Solomon will be king after me; he will sit on my throne”? So why has Adonijah become king?’While you are still there speaking to the king, I will arrive and verify your report.”So Bathsheba visited the king in his private quarters.( The king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.)Bathsheba bowed down on the floor before the king. The king said,“ What do you want?”She replied to him,“ My master, you swore an oath to your servant by the LORD your God,‘ Solomon your son will be king after me and he will sit on my throne.’

King David responded,“ Summon Bathsheba!” She came and stood before the king.The king swore an oath:“ As certainly as the LORD lives( he who has rescued me from every danger),I will keep today the oath I swore to you by the LORD God of Israel:‘ Surely Solomon your son will be king after me; he will sit in my place on my throne.’”Bathsheba bowed down to the king with her face to the floor and said,“ May my master, King David, live forever!”

He did this because David had done what he approved and had not disregarded any of his commandments his entire lifetime, except for the incident involving Uriah the Hittite.
