彼將以以利亞之性與能、行於主前、使為父者之心、轉向其子、逆者從義者之智、為主備適宜之民、

門徒問曰、士子言以利亞必先至、何也、曰、以利亞果至、興復諸事、我語汝、以利亞已至、而人不之識、任意待之、人子亦將受其害、門徒始悟所言、乃指施洗約翰也、○

萬軍之耶和華曰、我遣我使備路於我前、爾所求之主、必忽臨厥殿、盟約之使、爾所慕者、將至矣、

復問之曰、爾非基督、非以利亞、非彼先知、胡為施洗耶、

旁立者有人聞之曰、彼呼以利亞也、其中一人疾趨、取海絨漬醯、束葦以飲之、或曰、姑聽之、試觀以利亞來救之否、
