And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come?And he answered and said, Elijah indeed cometh, and shall restore all things:but I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them.Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come.

for the great day of their wrath is come; and who is able to stand?

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of Jehovah cometh.

The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.

For, behold, the day cometh, it burneth as a furnace; and all the proud, and all that work wickedness, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith Jehovah of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there is none greater than John: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.

And behold, there talked with him two men, who were Moses and Elijah;

And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day:

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?

And some of them that stood there, when they heard it, said, This man calleth Elijah.And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.And the rest said, Let be; let us see whether Elijah cometh to save him.
