“ Remember the law my servant Moses gave you. Remember the rules and laws I gave him at Mount Horeb. They were for the whole nation of Israel.

“ Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

“ Remember to obey the Law of Moses, my servant— all the decrees and regulations that I gave him on Mount Sinai for all Israel.

“ Remember the instruction of Moses my servant, the statutes and ordinances I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

“ Remember the Law of Moses My servant, the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.

“ Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, With the statutes and judgments.

Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances.

“ Remember the instruction of Moses My servant, the statutes and ordinances I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel,[ with] the statutes and judgments.

Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me,“ Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.”

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.For he who said,“ You shall not commit adultery,” also said,“ You shall not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:“ Love your neighbor as yourself.”

“ You shall have no other gods before me.“ You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.“ You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.“ Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.Six days you shall labor and do all your work,but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.“ Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.“ You shall not murder.“ You shall not commit adultery.“ You shall not steal.“ You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.“ You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distanceand said to Moses,“ Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.”Moses said to the people,“ Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.

“ Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.The commandments,“ You shall not commit adultery,”“ You shall not murder,”“ You shall not steal,”“ You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command:“ Love your neighbor as yourself.”Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

“ Abraham replied,‘ They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’“‘ No, father Abraham,’ he said,‘ but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’“ He said to him,‘ If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

“ These are the laws you are to set before them:“ If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything.If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him.If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free.“ But if the servant declares,‘ I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,’then his master must take him before the judges. He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life.“ If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do.If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her.If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter.If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights.If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.“ Anyone who strikes a person with a fatal blow is to be put to death.However, if it is not done intentionally, but God lets it happen, they are to flee to a place I will designate.But if anyone schemes and kills someone deliberately, that person is to be taken from my altar and put to death.“ Anyone who attacks their father or mother is to be put to death.“ Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper’s possession.“ Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.“ If people quarrel and one person hits another with a stone or with their fist and the victim does not die but is confined to bed,the one who struck the blow will not be held liable if the other can get up and walk around outside with a staff; however, the guilty party must pay the injured person for any loss of time and see that the victim is completely healed.“ Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result,but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.“ If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows.But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life,

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to inherit eternal life?”“ What is written in the Law?” he replied.“ How do you read it?”He answered,“‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and,‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’”“ You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied.“ Do this and you will live.”

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him,“ Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”“ The most important one,” answered Jesus,“ is this:‘ Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’The second is this:‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”“ Well said, teacher,” the man replied.“ You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him,“ You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

“ Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”Jesus replied:“‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment.And the second is like it:‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.

It pleased the Lord for the sake of his righteousness to make his law great and glorious.

Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked,“ Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”“ Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied.“ There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”“ Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied,“‘ You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony,honor your father and mother,’ and‘ love your neighbor as yourself.’”“ All these I have kept,” the young man said.“ What do I still lack?”Jesus answered,“ If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,yet you refuse to come to me to have life.“ I do not accept glory from human beings,but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?“ But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”

The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said,“ Speak to the Israelites and say to them:‘ When anyone among you brings an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock.“‘ If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the Lord.You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you.You are to slaughter the young bull before the Lord, and then Aaron’s sons the priests shall bring the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar at the entrance to the tent of meeting.You are to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.

He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel.He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws. Praise the Lord.

See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it.Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say,“ Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”
