尼希米省长、以斯拉祭司文士，和教导百姓的利未人对众百姓说：“今日是耶和华—你们神的圣日，不要悲哀，也不要哭泣。”这是因为众百姓听见律法书上的话都哭了。尼希米对他们说：“你们去吃肥美的，喝甘甜的，有不能预备的就分给他，因为今日是我们主的圣日。你们不要忧愁，因靠耶和华而得的喜乐是你们的力量。”于是利未人叫众百姓安静，说：“安静，因今日是圣日，不要忧愁。”众百姓去吃喝，也分给别人，都大大喜乐，因为他们明白所教导他们的话。

他们禁食的时候，我不听他们的呼求；他们献燔祭和素祭，我也不悦纳。我却要用刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫灭绝他们。”

她玛把灰尘撒在头上，撕裂所穿的彩衣，以手抱头，一面走一面哭喊。她胞兄押沙龙对她说：“你哥哥暗嫩与你亲近了吗？妹妹，现在暂且不要作声，他是你的哥哥，不要把这事放在心上。”她玛就孤孤单单地住在她胞兄押沙龙的家里。

耶和华说：“你们许多的祭物于我何益呢？公绵羊的燔祭和肥畜的油脂，我已经腻烦了；公牛、羔羊、公山羊的血，我都不喜悦。“你们来朝见我，谁向你们的手要求这些，使你们践踏我的院宇呢？不要再献无谓的供物了，香是我所憎恶的。我不能容忍行恶又守严肃会：初一、安息日和召集的大会。你们的初一和节期，我心里恨恶，它们成了我的重担，担当这些，令我厌烦。你们举手祷告，我必遮眼不看，就算你们多多祈祷，我也不听；你们的手沾满了血。

恶人献祭，为耶和华所憎恶；正直人祈祷，为他所喜悦。

从示巴来的乳香，从远方出的香菖蒲，奉来给我有何用呢？你们的燔祭不蒙悦纳；你们的祭物，我也不喜悦。”

你要谨慎，不可心起恶念，说：‘第七年的豁免年快到了’，你就冷眼看你贫穷的弟兄，什么都不给他。他若为你的缘故求告耶和华，你就有罪了。

恶人献的祭是可憎的，何况他存恶意来献呢？
