全体民众听到律法书上的话都哭了。尼希米省长、律法教师以斯拉祭司和教导民众的利未人对他们说：“今天是你们上帝耶和华的圣日，不要悲哀、哭泣。”尼希米又说：“你们去吃肥美的肉，喝甘甜的酒，并分些给一无所有的人，因为今天是我们主的圣日。不要悲伤，因为从耶和华而来的喜乐就是你们的力量。”利未人使全体民众安静，说：“请安静，因为今天是圣日。不要悲伤。”于是，全体民众去吃喝，并分给他人，非常欢喜，因为他们明白了教导给他们的话。

他们禁食，我也不会听他们的呼求；他们献上燔祭和素祭，我也不会悦纳。我要用战争、饥荒和瘟疫灭绝他们。”

她玛把灰尘撒在头上，撕破身上的彩衣，双手抱着头，一面走一面哭。她的哥哥押沙龙问她：“是不是你哥哥暗嫩污辱了你？妹妹，不要声张，他是你哥哥，不要把这件事放在心上。”于是她玛就忧忧郁郁地住在押沙龙家里。

耶和华说：“你们献上许多祭物，对我有什么用呢？我厌烦公绵羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂肪，我不喜欢公牛、羊羔和公山羊的血。“你们来敬拜我的时候，谁要求你们带着这些来践踏我的院宇呢？不要再带毫无意义的祭物了。我憎恶你们烧的香，厌恶你们的朔日、安息日和大会。你们又作恶又举行庄严的聚会，令我无法容忍。我憎恶你们的朔日及其他节期，它们成了我的重担，令我厌倦。你们举手祷告，我必掩面不理。即使你们祷告再多，我也不会听，因为你们双手沾满鲜血。

耶和华憎恨恶人的祭物，悦纳正直人的祈祷。

从示巴运来乳香，从远方带来菖蒲献给我，有什么用呢？我不悦纳他们的燔祭，不喜欢他们的牲畜。”

你们要谨慎，不可因为免除债务的第七年将近，就心怀恶念，对贫穷同胞冷眼相待，拒施援手。否则，他会求告耶和华，那时你们便有罪了。

恶人的祭物已经可憎，何况他怀着恶意来献！
