以利亞回答五十夫長、說：『我，我若是神人，那麼願火從天上降下來、燒滅你和你那五十人。』於是有火從天上降下來、燒滅了五十夫長和他那五十人。王又差遣另一個五十夫長帶着他那五十人去見以利亞。五十夫長應時對以利亞說：『神人哪、王這樣吩咐說：「你趕快下來。」』以利亞回答他們說：『我，我若是神人，那麼願火從天上降下來、燒滅你和你那五十人。』於是有上帝的火從天上降下來、燒滅了五十夫長和他那五十人。王又差遣第三個五十夫長帶着他那五十人。這第三個五十夫長上去，屈膝在以利亞面前，向他乞哀求憐說：『神人哪，我的性命、和你僕人這五十個人的性命、願你看為寶貴。你看，已經有火從天上降下來、燒滅了頭兩個五十夫長和他們各自帶領的五十人，現在願你看我的性命為寶貴。』

你們若存着苦毒的妒忌和營私爭勝在心裏，別自己誇勝、作假事以敵真理了。這樣的智慧不是從上頭下來的，是屬地上、屬血氣、屬鬼魔的。哪裏有妒忌和營私爭勝，哪裏就有擾亂和各樣的壞事。惟獨從上頭來的智慧、第一是清潔，其次是和平、溫良、柔順，滿有憐恤和美善果子的，不含糊兩可、不假模假樣。並且正義之果子也是在和平中撒種、給締造和平的人收成的。

我親愛的弟兄們，你們要明白。各人要敏於聽，不要急於說，不要急於發怒。因為人的忿怒並不能生出上帝所要求的正義來。

如今主啊，鑒察他們的恐嚇哦，使你僕人能完全放膽無懼講你的道；同時伸出你的手來醫病，使神迹奇事、藉你聖僕耶穌的名、行了出來。』

牠的頭有一個似乎受了能致死之傷的；但那能致死之傷卻得治好；全地之人就都希奇，跟從了獸；

但是耶戶對永恆主以色列上帝的律法並不盡心謹慎遵行，不離開耶羅波安的罪、耶羅波安使以色列人犯的那罪。

基遍人原來不是以色列人，乃是亞摩利人中剩下來的；以色列人曾經和他們有誓約；掃羅卻對以色列人和猶大人生了妒愛熱情，想法子要擊殺基遍人。大衛王把基遍人召了來，問他們說：

耶戶說：『你跟我一同去，看我為永恆主怎樣發妒愛熱情。』就請他同他坐車。
