以利亞回答五十夫長說：“如果我是神人，願火從天降下，把你和你的五十名手下吞滅。”於是有火從天降下，吞滅了五十夫長和他的五十名手下。王再次派一個五十夫長和他的五十名手下到以利亞那裡去。那五十夫長對以利亞說：“神人哪！王這樣吩咐：‘你趕快下來。’”以利亞回答他們說：“如果我是神人，願火從天降下，把你和你的五十名手下吞滅。”於是神的火從天降下，吞滅了五十夫長和他的五十名手下。王又派出第三名五十夫長和他的五十名手下；那五十夫長來到，就雙膝跪在以利亞面前，懇求他，對他說：“神人哪！願我的性命和這五十個僕人的性命在你眼中看為寶貴。看哪！曾經有火從天降下，吞滅了先前兩個五十夫長和他們各五十名手下；現在，願我的性命在你眼中看為寶貴。”

如果你們心中存著刻薄的嫉妒和自私，就不可誇口，也不可說謊抵擋真理。這種智慧不是從天上來的，而是屬地的、屬血氣的和屬鬼魔的。因為凡有嫉妒和自私的地方，就必有擾亂和各樣的壞事。至於從天上來的智慧，首先是純潔的，其次是和平的，溫柔的，謙遜的，滿有恩慈和善果，沒有偏袒，沒有虛偽。這是締造和平的人，用和平所培植出來的義果。

我親愛的弟兄們，你們要知道，人人都應該快快地聽，慢慢地說，慢一點動怒；因為人的忿怒並不能成全神的義。

主啊，他們恐嚇我們，現在求你鑒察，也賜你僕人們大有膽量，傳講你的道。求你伸手醫治，藉著你聖僕耶穌的名，大行神蹟奇事。”

獸的七頭中有一個似乎受了致命傷，但那致命傷卻醫好了。全地的人都很驚奇，跟從那獸。

可是耶戶沒有盡心遵行耶和華以色列神的律法，離棄耶羅波安使以色列人陷於罪中的那些罪。

原來基遍人不是以色列人，而是亞摩利人中餘剩的後人。以色列人曾經起誓與他們立約，但掃羅卻為以色列人和猶大人發熱心，設法要擊殺他們。王把基遍人召了來，對他們說話。

耶戶說：“你和我一起去，看看我對耶和華的熱誠。”於是用自己的戰車載他同去。
