以利亚回答五十夫长说：“如果我是神人，愿火从天降下，把你和你的五十名手下吞灭。”于是有火从天降下，吞灭了五十夫长和他的五十名手下。王再次派一个五十夫长和他的五十名手下到以利亚那里去。那五十夫长对以利亚说：“神人哪！王这样吩咐：‘你赶快下来。’”以利亚回答他们说：“如果我是神人，愿火从天降下，把你和你的五十名手下吞灭。”于是神的火从天降下，吞灭了五十夫长和他的五十名手下。王又派出第三名五十夫长和他的五十名手下；那五十夫长来到，就双膝跪在以利亚面前，恳求他，对他说：“神人哪！愿我的性命和这五十个仆人的性命在你眼中看为宝贵。看哪！曾经有火从天降下，吞灭了先前两个五十夫长和他们各五十名手下；现在，愿我的性命在你眼中看为宝贵。”

如果你们心中存着刻薄的嫉妒和自私，就不可夸口，也不可说谎抵挡真理。这种智慧不是从天上来的，而是属地的、属血气的和属鬼魔的。因为凡有嫉妒和自私的地方，就必有扰乱和各样的坏事。至于从天上来的智慧，首先是纯洁的，其次是和平的，温柔的，谦逊的，满有恩慈和善果，没有偏袒，没有虚伪。这是缔造和平的人，用和平所培植出来的义果。

我亲爱的弟兄们，你们要知道，人人都应该快快地听，慢慢地说，慢一点动怒；因为人的忿怒并不能成全神的义。

主啊，他们恐吓我们，现在求你鉴察，也赐你仆人们大有胆量，传讲你的道。求你伸手医治，藉着你圣仆耶稣的名，大行神迹奇事。”

兽的七头中有一个似乎受了致命伤，但那致命伤却医好了。全地的人都很惊奇，跟从那兽。

可是耶户没有尽心遵行耶和华以色列神的律法，离弃耶罗波安使以色列人陷于罪中的那些罪。

原来基遍人不是以色列人，而是亚摩利人中余剩的后人。以色列人曾经起誓与他们立约，但扫罗却为以色列人和犹大人发热心，设法要击杀他们。王把基遍人召了来，对他们说话。

耶户说：“你和我一起去，看看我对耶和华的热诚。”于是用自己的战车载他同去。
