這是因為耶穌已命令污鬼離開那人。那人多次被污鬼操縱，人們用鐵鏈腳鐐把他鎖起來看管，他竟把鎖鏈也扯斷，被鬼催逼到荒野。

儘管有人多次用鐵鏈和腳鐐鎖住他，但他掙斷了鐵鏈，砸碎了腳鐐。沒有人能制伏他。他晝夜在墳場和山野間大喊大叫，又用石頭砍自己。

耶穌責備牠說：「住口！從他身上出來！」污鬼當場把那人摔倒，然後從他身上離開了，絲毫沒有傷害他。

你們務要謹慎，警醒，因為你們的仇敵魔鬼好像咆哮的獅子四處遊走，尋找可以吞吃的獵物。

那鬼發出喊叫，使孩子劇烈地抽搐了一陣，就出來了。孩子躺在地上一動也不動，大家都以為他死了。

他們把那孩子帶到耶穌面前。那鬼一見耶穌，就使孩子抽搐，倒在地上打滾，口吐白沫。

牠們的王是無底坑的天使，希伯來文名叫亞巴頓，希臘文名叫亞玻倫，意思是「毀滅者」。

你們是出於你們的父魔鬼，你們樂意順著牠的私慾行。魔鬼從起初就是個殺人兇手，從不站在真理這一邊，因為牠心裡根本沒有真理。撒謊是牠的本性，因為牠是撒謊者，又是撒謊者的始祖。
