His disciples asked him what the story meant.

The disciples came to him and asked,“ Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

“ Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:

When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.

Peter said,“ Explain the parable to us.”

He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable.“ Are you so dull?” he asked.“ Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them?

Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.”

Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said,“ Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
