People looked down on him. They didn’t accept him. He knew all about pain and suffering. He was like someone people turn their faces away from. We looked down on him. We didn’t have any respect for him.

The Pharisees loved money. They heard all that Jesus said and made fun of him.

“ My friends laugh at me all the time, even though I called out to God and he answered. My friends laugh at me, even though I’m honest and right.

Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead. So he called for the Roman commander. He asked him if Jesus had already died.The commander said it was true. So Pilate gave the body to Joseph.

All those who see me laugh at me. They shout at me and make fun of me. They shake their heads at me.

People who make fun of me are all around me. I’m forced to watch as they attack me with their words.

But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead. So they did not break his legs.Instead, one of the soldiers stuck his spear into Jesus’ side. Right away, blood and water flowed out.The man who saw it has been a witness about it. And what he has said is true. He knows that he tells the truth. He is a witness so that you also may believe.

“ Take away the stone,” he said.“ But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man,“ by this time there is a bad smell. Lazarus has been in the tomb for four days.”
