于是耶稣与他们一起去了。当耶稣离他家不远的时候，百夫长又托了几个朋友来对耶稣说：“主啊，不用麻烦了，我实在不配请你进我家，

这时候，来了一个名叫睚鲁的人，他是一个会堂主管。他俯伏在耶稣脚前，恳求耶稣到他家里去，因为他有一个约十二岁的独生女儿，快要死了。耶稣去的时候，人群拥挤着他。有一个妇人，患了十二年的血漏病，在医生那里花尽了她所有的养生费用，却没有一个人能使她痊愈。

但亚哈斯说：“我不求，我不试探耶和华。”

耶稣还在说话的时候，有些人从会堂主管的家里来，对睚鲁说：“你的女儿已经死了，何必再麻烦老师呢？”耶稣却当做没听见他们所说的话，对会堂主管说：“不要怕，只要信！”然后他除了彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰以外，不准别的人跟着。他们来到会堂主管的家里，耶稣看见一片混乱，有人哭泣，有人哀号。耶稣进去对他们说：“为什么慌乱哭泣呢？孩子不是死了，而是睡了。”他们就讥笑耶稣。耶稣把他们都赶出去，只带着孩子的父母和一起来的人，进入孩子所在的地方。他握着孩子的手，对她说：“塔利达，库莫！”——这翻译出来就是“小女孩，我吩咐你起来！”那女孩随即起来，开始走动。她那时十二岁。大家立刻目瞪口呆，大为惊讶。耶稣郑重地吩咐他们，不要让任何人知道这事，又吩咐给孩子吃东西。

耶稣来到那会堂主管的家，看见吹笛的人和慌乱的人群，就说：“你们退去吧！这女孩不是死了，而是睡了。”他们就讥笑他。那群人被赶出去以后，耶稣进去，握着女孩的手，那女孩就起来了。于是，这消息传遍了那整个地区。

那个人从里面回答说：‘请不要烦扰我。门已经关上了，我与孩子们也已经上了床，不能起来拿给你。’
