耶稣就跟他们去了。快抵达时，那百夫长又请几位朋友去见耶稣，对祂说：“主啊，不用劳驾，我不配让你亲自来我家。

一个名叫雅鲁的会堂主管走过来俯伏在耶稣脚前，求耶稣到他家去，因为他有一个大约十二岁的独生女快要死了。耶稣前去雅鲁家的时候，人群拥挤着祂。有一个患了十二年血漏病的妇人耗尽了积蓄，到处求医，但没有人能医治她。

但亚哈斯说：“我不求，我不要试探耶和华。”

耶稣还在说话的时候，有人从雅鲁家中赶来，对雅鲁说：“你的女儿已经死了，何必麻烦老师呢？”耶稣听了，便对雅鲁说：“不要怕，只要信。”于是，祂带着彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰去雅鲁家，不准其他人跟着。他们到了那里，只见在场的人嚎啕大哭，场面混乱。耶稣进去问道：“你们为什么大哭大嚷呢？这孩子并没有死，只是睡着了。”这些人听了，都讥笑祂。耶稣让他们全部出去，然后带着孩子的父母和三个门徒进了房间。祂拉着孩子的手说：“大利大，古米！”意思是：“小女孩，我吩咐你起来！”小女孩应声而起，并且可以走动，那时她十二岁。在场的人都惊奇不已。耶稣郑重叮嘱他们不要把这事张扬出去，又吩咐他们给女孩东西吃。

耶稣来到管理会堂之人的家，看见殡葬的吹乐手和乱嚷嚷的人群，就吩咐他们：“你们出去吧，这女孩并没有死，只是睡着了。”他们都讥笑祂。耶稣让众人都出去，然后进去拉着女孩的手，女孩就起来了。这件事传遍了整个地区。

那个人在屋里应声说，‘请别打搅我，门已经锁上了，我和孩子们也已经上床了，我不能起来给你拿饼。’
