永恆主對撒但說：『看哪，凡他所有的都讓你手擺布；只是他的身子、你卻不可伸手加害。』於是撒但就從永恆主面前退出來。

他說：「我要出去，在他的眾神言人口中做個虛假之靈。」永恆主說：「這樣你就能夠引誘，並且能成功；你出去這樣行吧。」

耶穌回答說：『若不是從上頭給了你，你就毫無權柄辦我；故此那把我送交給你的、犯了更大的罪。』

永恆主對撒但說：『看哪，他都讓你手擺布；只是他的性命你卻要保存。』
