For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.

This was because Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times the spirit had taken hold of him. The man’s hands and feet were chained, and he was kept under guard. But he had broken his chains. And then the demon had forced him to go out into lonely places in the countryside.

甚至有人把保罗身上的手巾和围裙拿去，放在病人身上，疾病就从他们身上消退了，邪灵也出去了。可是有一些四处游历的犹太驱魔师，向那些有邪灵附身的人，擅自称呼主耶稣的名，说：“我藉着保罗所传的耶稣，吩咐你们出来。”有一个名叫斯克瓦的犹太祭司长，他的七个儿子都在做这种事。邪灵回答他们，说：“耶稣我认识，保罗我也知道！但你们呢？你们是谁？”有邪灵附身的那个人就跳到他们身上，压制了所有的人，胜过了他们，以致他们赤着身带着伤，从那房子逃了出去。

你看，邪灵抓住他，忽然喊叫起来，又使他抽疯，口吐白沫；邪灵折磨着他，就是不离开。

他们就把他带到耶稣面前来。邪灵一见耶稣，立刻使孩子剧烈地抽疯，倒在地上打滚，口吐白沫。耶稣问孩子的父亲：“这事发生在他身上有多久了？”他回答说：“从小就这样。邪灵经常把他扔进火里或水里，要害死他。但你如果能做什么，就求你怜悯我们，帮助我们！”耶稣对他说：“‘如果你能’？——对信的人，一切都能。”那孩子的父亲立刻喊着说：“我信！但我的不信之处，求你帮助！”耶稣看见众人都跑上来，就斥责那污灵，说：“你这聋哑的邪灵，我命令你：从他里面出来，不可再进去！”邪灵喊叫一声，使孩子剧烈地抽疯，就出来了。孩子变得像死人那样，所以许多人说：“他死了。”

那孩子上前来的时候，鬼魔把他摔倒，使他剧烈地抽疯。耶稣就斥责那污灵，使孩子痊愈，把孩子交给他父亲。

这是因为耶稣对他说：“你出来，污灵！离开这个人！”

温柔地管教那些反对的人；或许神会赐给这些人悔改的心，到真理的知识当中。这样，那些被魔鬼掳去、随从魔鬼意思的人，就能醒悟过来，脱离魔鬼的网罗。

这个人住在墓地里，没有人能捆住他，就是用铁链也不行。他经常被脚镣和铁链捆起来，然而他总是挣断铁链、打碎脚镣。没有人能制伏他。不管黑夜白昼，他常常在墓地和山上喊叫，又用石头砍自己。
