For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.

甚至只要将保罗身上的手帕或围裙放在病人身上，病人就痊愈了，邪灵也会离开所附的人。那时，有几个走江湖的犹太术士也想用耶稣的名赶鬼，他们向那些被邪灵附身的人说：“我奉保罗所传讲的耶稣之名，命令你们出来！”做这事的有犹太祭司长士基瓦的七个儿子。邪灵回答说：“耶稣，我认识；保罗，我也知道。但你们是谁？”被邪灵附身的人随即扑向他们，攻击他们，制服了他们，使他们赤着身子带着伤从屋里逃走了。

鬼控制着他，他常常突然狂喊乱叫、抽搐、口吐白沫，倍受折磨，无休无止。

他们把那孩子带到耶稣面前。那鬼一见耶稣，就使孩子抽搐，倒在地上打滚，口吐白沫。耶稣问孩子的父亲：“他这样子多久了？”孩子的父亲回答道：“他从小就这样，鬼常常将他扔进火里或水里，要害他的命。如果你能，求你怜悯我们，帮助我们吧！”耶稣说：“如果你能？对于相信的人，凡事都有可能！”孩子的父亲立刻喊着说：“我信！但我信心不足，求你帮助我！”耶稣看见人群都跑了过来，就斥责那污鬼：“你这个聋哑鬼，我命令你从他身上出来，不许再进去！”那鬼发出喊叫，使孩子剧烈地抽搐了一阵，就出来了。孩子躺在地上一动也不动，大家都以为他死了。

那孩子走过来时，鬼又把他摔倒，使他抽搐，耶稣立刻斥责污鬼，把那孩子治好了，交给他父亲。

原来，耶稣已经对他身上的鬼说：“污鬼，从这人身上出来！”

要温柔地规劝那些反对我们的人，也许上帝会赐给他们悔改的心，使他们明白真理，让他们这些被魔鬼掳去、受其摆布的人能够醒悟过来，脱离魔鬼的网罗。

那人以坟场为家，从来没有人能把他捆住，就算用铁链也锁不住他。尽管有人多次用铁链和脚镣锁住他，但他挣断了铁链，砸碎了脚镣。没有人能制服他。他昼夜在坟场和山野间大喊大叫，又用石头砍自己。
