The water rose over my head, and I cried out,“ This is the end!”But I called on your name, Lord, from deep within the pit.You heard me when I cried,“ Listen to my pleading! Hear my cry for help!”

Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the Lord, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.

I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me.Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say,“ You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.

At his command the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither.

Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.Then I called on the name of the Lord:“ Please, Lord, save me!”

“ Master,” Simon replied,“ we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”

Why was no one there when I came? Why didn’t anyone answer when I called? Is it because I have no power to rescue? No, that is not the reason! For I can speak to the sea and make it dry up! I can turn rivers into deserts covered with dying fish.
