至於那些想發財的人就會陷入試探、網羅以及很多無知有害的欲望裡；這些欲望使人沉溺在敗壞和滅亡中。要知道，貪愛金錢是萬惡之根；有些人戀慕金錢，就被迷惑而離開了信仰，用很多苦痛把自己刺透了。

但今世的各種憂慮、財富的迷惑，以及其他各種欲望紛紛進來把這話語擠住了，他就成了不結果實的。

有的落進荊棘叢裡，荊棘與它一起生長，把它擠住了。

「一個人不能服事兩個主人。他不是厭惡這個、喜愛那個，就是忠於這個、輕視那個。你們不能既服事神，又服事財富。「所以我告訴你們：不要為你們的生命而憂慮吃什麼、喝什麼；也不要為你們的身體而憂慮穿什麼；難道生命不比食物更重要，身體不比衣服更重要嗎？

那被撒進種子的『荊棘叢』是這樣的人：他聽了這話語，但今世的憂慮和財富的迷惑把話語擠住了，他就成了不結果實的。

因為迪馬斯愛上了現今的世代，就離棄我到帖撒羅尼迦去了；克勒斯克到加拉太去，提多到達爾馬提亞去了，

「在挪亞的那些日子裡發生的怎樣，在人子的那些日子裡也將要怎樣：人們繼續吃、喝、嫁、娶，直到挪亞進方舟的那一天，洪水到來，把一切都毀滅了。同樣，就像在羅得的那些日子裡發生的那樣：人們繼續吃喝、買賣、耕種、建造，到了羅得離開所多瑪的那一天，烈火和硫磺就從天而降，把一切都毀滅了。人子顯現的那一天，也將是同樣的。

耶穌看見他變得很憂愁，就說：「有錢財的人進入神的國，是多麼困難！駱駝穿過針眼，比富有的人進入神的國更容易呢！」

一個人如果不住在我裡面，就像枝條被丟在外面枯乾了，然後被收集扔進火裡焚燒。
