While He was still speaking, someone* came from the house of the synagogue official, saying,“ Your daughter has died; do not trouble the Teacher anymore.”

A person’s pride will bring him low, But a humble spirit will obtain honor.

Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired laborers.” ’So he set out and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.And the son said to him,‘ Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying,“ Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”

And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.

Truly I say to you, you will not come out of there until you have paid up the last quadrans.“ You have heard that it was said,‘ You shall not commit adultery’;

“ As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says,“ God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

When they came to Jesus, they strongly urged Him, saying,“ He is worthy for You to grant this to him;

I am unworthy of all the favor and of all the faithfulness, which You have shown to Your servant; for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two companies.
