Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying,“ This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”

宴耶穌之𠵽唎㘔人見此、意謂是人若先知、必知捫之者為何如婦、蓋惡行者也、○

法利塞見而自思曰：「斯人苟為先知、當知撫之者為誰、寧不識此女乃風塵中人乎？」

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is— that she is a sinner.”

The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this. He said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him. He would know what kind of woman she is. She is a sinner!”

Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw[ it], he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman[ this is] that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying,“ A great prophet has risen up among us”; and,“ God has visited His people.”

And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying,“ This Man receives sinners and eats with them.”

Who say,‘ Keep to yourself, Do not come near me, For I am holier than you!’ These are smoke in My nostrils, A fire that burns all the day.

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

Then the Pharisees answered them,“ Are you also deceived?Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”Nicodemus( he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them,“ Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”They answered and said to him,“ Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”

And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,

Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

“ Then the steward said within himself,‘ What shall I do? For my master is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg.

“ But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.So he answered and said to his father,‘ Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’

The woman said to Him,“ Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.“ Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you.

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:“ Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself,‘ God, I thank You that I am not like other men— extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him,“ Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner.”

And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,“ Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said,“ He is good”; others said,“ No, on the contrary, He deceives the people.”

Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said,“ Truly this is the Prophet.”Others said,“ This is the Christ.” But some said,“ Will the Christ come out of Galilee?

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said,“ Look, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, while not receiving from his hands what he brought; but as the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him.”

And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself,‘ Though I do not fear God nor regard man,

When Jesus heard that, He said to them,“ Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.But go and learn what this means:‘ I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

“ But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said,‘ son, go, work today in my vineyard.’He answered and said,‘ I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went.Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said,‘ I go, sir,’ but he did not go.Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him,“ The first.” Jesus said to them,“ Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.

So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”

And he thought within himself, saying,‘ What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’
