For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say,‘ He has a demon.’

That is how it has been with John the Baptist. When he came to you, he didn’t eat bread or drink wine. And you say,‘ He has a demon.’

“‘ Do not go to a house where people are feasting and sit down to eat and drink with them either.For I, the LORD God of Israel who rules over all, tell you what will happen. I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness, to the glad celebration of brides and grooms in this land. You and the rest of the people will live to see this happen.’”“ When you tell these people about all this, they will undoubtedly ask you,‘ Why has the LORD threatened us with such great disaster? What wrong have we done? What sin have we done to offend the LORD our God?’

But others jeered at the speakers, saying,“ They are drunk on new wine!”

The Judeans replied,“ Aren’t we correct in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?”

Many of them were saying,“ He is possessed by a demon and has lost his mind! Why do you listen to him?”

Then the Judeans responded,“ Now we know you’re possessed by a demon! Both Abraham and the prophets died, and yet you say,‘ If anyone obeys my teaching, he will never experience death.’

Now John wore clothing made from camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his diet consisted of locusts and wild honey.

It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house‘ Beelzebul,’ how much more will they defame the members of his household!
