「我確實地告訴你們：在女人所生的人中，沒有出現過一個比施洗者約翰更大的；然而在天國裡，再小的也比約翰更大。

耶穌轉過身來，悄悄地對門徒們說：「看見你們所看見的，那眼睛是蒙福的！我告訴你們：曾經有許多先知和君王想要看你們所看見的，卻沒有看到；想要聽你們所聽見的，卻沒有聽到。」

「但你們的眼睛是蒙福的，因為看見了；你們的耳朵是蒙福的，因為聽見了。我確實地告訴你們：曾經有許多先知和義人渴望看你們所看見的，卻沒有看到；渴望聽你們所聽見的，卻沒有聽到。

神為了你們的緣故賜給了我任務，我按照這任務成為教會的僕人，為要使神的話語完全傳開。這話語就是歷世歷代被隱藏的奧祕，但如今已經顯明給他的聖徒們。神願意在外邦人中，讓他們明白什麼是這奧祕的榮耀的豐盛；那就是：基督在你們裡面，他是榮耀的盼望！

我在所有聖徒中，比最小的還小，但被賜予了這恩典，是為了把基督那無法測度的豐盛傳給外邦人；並且使所有的人都明白這奧祕的計劃到底是什麼，這奧祕自古以來被隱藏在創造萬有的神裡面，

約翰就回答大家，說：「我用水給你們施洗，但有一位比我更強有力的要來，我就是為他解鞋帶也不配。他要用聖靈和火給你們施洗。

關於這救恩，那些預言你們要得著這恩典的先知，曾經尋求過，詳細查考過。他們查考了自己裡面基督之靈，當他預言有關基督的苦難和此後的榮耀時，究竟指明的是什麼時候、或什麼樣的情況。他們蒙了啟示，知道所服事的這一切，不是為自己，而是為你們。如今，這些事藉著從天上派來的聖靈，通過那些向你們傳福音的人，傳講給了你們；對於這些事，天使們也渴望能詳細察看。

然後對他們說：「無論誰奉我的名接受這小孩子，就是接受我；接受我的，就是接受差派我來的那一位。要知道，在你們當中誰更小，他才為大。」

他將使你歡喜、快樂，許多人也會因他的誕生而歡欣，因為他將要在主面前為大。淡酒和烈酒他絕不能喝，還在母腹中的時候，他就會被聖靈充滿。

這些人雖然都藉著信受到了讚許，還是沒有領受到所應許的，因為神為我們預備了更美好的事，使他們沒有我們，就不能得以完全。
