I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”

I tell you, no one more important than John has ever been born. But the least important person in God’s kingdom is more important than John is.”

“ Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one greater than John the Baptist has appeared, but the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Then turning to his disciples he said privately,“ Blessed are the eyes that see the things you see!For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see but didn’t see them; to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.”

“ Blessed are your eyes because they do see, and your ears because they do hear.For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see the things you see but didn’t see them, to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.

I have become its servant, according to God’s commission that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known,the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints.God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

This grace was given to me— the least of all the saints— to proclaim to the Gentiles the incalculable riches of Christ,and to shed light for all about the administration of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things.

John answered them all,“ I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I am is coming. I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who prophesied about the grace that would come to you, searched and carefully investigated.They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified in advance to the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven— angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.

He told them,“ Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me welcomes him who sent me. For whoever is least among you— this one is great.”

There will be joy and delight for you, and many will rejoice at his birth.For he will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or beer. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit while still in his mother’s womb.

All these were approved through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised,since God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us.
